Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) held a general lecture and signed an MoU with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia which on this case was represented by the Head of Assessment and Policy Development Agency (BPPK) of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Siswo Pramono, SH, LLM Ph. D., at the Multifunction Room of the Faculty of Engineering of UNP on Saturday, November 17, 2018.
The event was attended by the Rector, Vice-Rector IV, Dean and Vice-Deans, Head of Bureau, Institutions, and UPT, along with the academics within the UNP.
In his speech, the Rector of UNP said that the existence of the Indo-Pacific’s Study Center was important on bridging the vision and mission of UNP to become a leading university in the Southeast Asia Region. The Indo-Pacific’s Study Center can be used as a tool on building the nation through of some intense studies. Besides of that, its presence can also be utilized on building connectivity, sorting out and filtering out various foreign projects that can benefit and harm to the nation, as a tool on giving input to regional governments and the central government especially in developing policies related to foreign investment, and as a tool on creating and training qualified workers and on taking advantage of opportunities that can benefit all parties and elements of society.
Furthermore, Siswo Pramono as the speaker in the general lecture and the representative of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the presence of Padang and Ranah Minang, why is it so important to be the Center for Indo-Pacific Studies. Siswono said that Ranah Minang was a great hope for the Nation because departed from history which has proven that many of the nation's leading figures were born from Ranah Minang. In addition, the geographical location of Padang which is strategic with the marine environment is been important reasons related to the development of this study on forward. In his speech, Siswo Pramono invited the UNP especially the board of the UNP’s Indo-Pacific Study Center to go to Jakarta in a short period of time to follow up on the MoU which agreed by both parties.
Regarding to the cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, furthermore the Rector of UNP hoped that the opportunity to cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can be utilized and used better in the future. (Public Relations of UNP/Translated by: Shilva Lioni)
