For Indonesian students, National Selection to enter Public Universities or commonly abbreviated as SNMPTN is one form of student admission selection pathway to enter public universities which is carried out simultaneously throughout Indonesia, in addition to independent selection (through the Independent Examination) and Public University Entrance Joint Selection (SBMPTN).

SNMPTN was held for the first time by the Directorate General of Higher Education in 2008 for answering the chaos that occurred in the forum of Rector of the universities throughout Indonesia related to the implementation of SPMB by the SPMB Nusantara Association which was considered not in accordance with the financial pattern of non-BHMN PTNs. [1]

Initially, SNMPTN consisted of two lines, namely invitation-based (such as PMDK) through written grades and then SNMPTN through written tests. In 2013, SNMPTN was written to be renamed as Joint Selection for State Universities (SBMPTN) and the Invitation of SNMPTN then changed its name to SNMPTN (not using invitations) with acceptance selection criteria based on the grade score, National Examination score, and other academic achievements.
