Padang—Member of Regional Representative Council (DPD) of Republic Indonesia from Sumatra, Dr. Herman Darnel Ibrahim became the speaker of general lecture of the National Energy Resilience in Multipurpose room, Faculty of Engineering Universitas Negeri Padang on Thursday (May 9, 2019).
Rector of UNP, Prof. Ganefri, Ph.D. officially opened the public lecture at RSG FT which attended by deans, head of institution, head of department, lectures, and hundreds of students. In the public lecture, the member of DPD, Dr. Herman Darnel Ibrahim who also of the National Energy Council described National Energy Resilience and the Potential Energy Crisis in the future.
The former of PLN directors shared a story about policy making related to his capacity as a member of one eighteen members of the National Power Board who carried out the task of designing and defining national power policies for government with the approval of the Indonesian Parliament.
“I am also experienced in national energy in the process of policy of the general plan of national power, measure of overcoming the crisis and emergency condition of power and oversee the implementation of policies regarding cross sectoral power”, said Herman Darnel Ibrahim.
In addition, he also said that the strength and progress of a country are determined by three factors, including food security, energy security and understand and master in science and technology. One of the factors the strength and progress become the importance of energy needs for Indonesian people. He explained that the projection of future energy consumption until 2050. The consumption projection is needed to provide estimates of the final energy needs of electricity, generating capacity and final energy needs of various industrial, transportation, household and commercial sectors including estimates of primary energy consumption and projected mix.
“Meanwhile, as is the projection of the future energy consumption, we become more aware that the necessity of Indonesia’s energy supply is so large. As we know our nation’s primary consumption in 2010, amounting to 179 MTOE is expected to triple to 480 MTOE in 2030 and increased more than five folds to 950 MTOE in 2050,” said Herman Darnel Ibrahim.
Furthermore, assessing of making policy to reform government, Herman Darnel said that many ignore the scientific perspective because various policies or decision contained the knowledge that governed them. At the end of the discussion, Dr. Herman Darnel opened the opportunities for participants of public lecture to ask the questions. During this session, several participants ask about what obstacles faced by HDI as long as members of the DEN.
Previously, Rector of UNP, Prof. Ganefri said the appearance of Dr. Herman Darnel Ibrahim, became a momentum for the progress of the Department of Electrical Engineering FT UNP. Dr Herman Darnel Ibrahim graduates from the Electrical Engineering ITB and S3 (Doctor) also at ITB regarding power and technicality and could be asked extraordinary lecturer in Department of Electrical Engineering FT UNP.
